Cat Training - A Little Help Goes A Long Way

Pets are a great way to fill your house with joy. Many people own pets and enjoy the time they spend with their pets. There are many options for pets. The spectrum ranges anywhere from goldfish to ponies. Many people keep gerbils or hamsters or snakes or turtles. Of course, the most common kind of pets are dogs and cats.

When you become a pet owner, you must take its training seriously. A young dog takes a lot of patience. He must be taught to sit down, to stay in place, and to come to you. He must also be taught not to urinate in the house. Owning a cat is far simpler, but that doesn’t say that kittens require no training.

Cat training is an integral part of owning a kitten. Kittens like to scratch and climb on the furniture. They also like to eat plants and sometimes bite. Usually litter box training is not very difficult with kittens. Often in a new home if you show the kitten the litter box a few times they will know what to do with it. Their mother, who also teaches them to clean themselves, often teaches this practice to them.

Cats that were separated from their mother at a young age require a more intensive form of cat training. If you find cat urine on the floor of your home, it means you might have to provide him the litter box more often. You should also check your plants for cat pee, since sometimes young kittens confuse flowerpots for the designated peeing place.

When your kitten is young, you may want to use more than one litter box. Kittens are similar to young children. When they are occupied they may not want to stop to go to the litter box. Then they might not get to the litter box in time. If you have more than one cat, they may prefer to use different litter boxes. If your mature cat starts having accidents when you get a new kitten, you should get an additional litter box.

One of the most important steps in cat training is to teach a cat to respond to his name, since cats, unlike dogs, do not naturally respond to their name. This does not mean that cats are stupid, however. Cats are quite different from dogs in their temperament. While dogs are naturally obedient, cats just do what pleases them. If, for example, your cat is outdoors in a cold night, he will probably come in when you call his name.

Science shows that people with pets are healthier and live longer. Choosing what type of pet best fits your lifestyle is important. Cats and dogs are most common. Training is one of the major issues you should consider. Puppies require more work to be housebroken and taught the basic commands. Cat training is easier. Cat urine, or “cat pee“, is an issue, but not one too difficult. Place litter boxes strategically around your house and watch that the cat is finding and using them. Cats often seem to take longer to learn their name than dogs, but often they are just being independent!
